Many citrus fruits, such as oranges, tangerines and grapefruits, are generally eaten fresh. Orange and grapefruit juices are very popular breakfast beverages. Lemonade is a popular beverage prepared by diluting the juices of lemons and adding sugar. Lemons and limes are also used as garnishes or in cooked dishes. The colourful outer skin of some citrus fruits, known as zest, is used as a flavouring in cooking. The citrus are also good sources of vitamin C and flavonoids.
